Saturday the 7th marked the official opening of walleye fishing in Wisconsin, and the daily limit on Green Bay increases from 1 fish to 5, with a minimum size limit of 15 inches. On the Fox River, the limit increases from 1 to 3 fish and no size limit. Perch fishing is still closed, and reopens May 20.
The bite opening day on the Bay was mixed, with a few fish taken along the east shore and more taken near Geanos Reef and north to Pensaukee and Oconto. Up north, the big fish bite continues around Sturgeon Bay, with some fish still in prespawn mode. Smallmouth Bass are being caught in staging areas to the spawn.
Whatever you do, please be safe and take a kid fishing.

Smokeys Weekly Fishing Report 5/3/22
Looks like the river walleye run has come to end. If our weather would settled down the bay would be on fire. On the east shore fishermen are catching walleyes trolling and jigging from Bay Shore to U Bay. On the west shore by Longtail, Geanos and the channel some nice walleyes are being caught. At Metro crappies, bass, walleyes, pike are a few muskies are biting. Mother nature needs to stable out and the fishing will get better. It’s opening weekend so be safe and watch the weather, For more information give us a call at 920 593 1749. Yah, only at Smokeys!!!
Smokey’s Weekly Fishing Report 4/27/22
Looks like the Fox River spawn might be coming to an end. Walleyes are still being caught but not like the numbers we had in previous weeks. As the fish move back to the bay the mouth of the river and U-Bay will be really good. Shore fishermen are are getting some nice walleyes and crappies at Metro but we need a more constant temperature too make these fish really turn on. For more information on what to use and where to fish give us a call at 920 593 1749. Yah, only at Smokeys!!!
Smokeys Guide Report by Captain Jerry Ruffalo
Mother Nature never loses! And she’s not friendly to fishermen! The constant wind, swinging from one direction to another, continues to test those who wish to challenge the Bay. Good walleye fishing continues on the Fox River, with a mixture of pre and post spawn walleyes taken daily. Hair jigs, blade baits, and rippin raps have been best. Night time fishermen continue to take big walleyes nightly, casting crankbaits near the refuge line and trolling the flats below the 172 bridge. In Oconto, many pre spawn and post spawn walleyes are found near the river mouth and around County Park 2. Rippin raps and hair jigs are best. The Peshtigo and Menominee Rivers are also putting out good catches of walleyes, with jigs/pulse-r’s and ripping raps being best. Please be safe on the water and take a kid fishing.

Smokeys weekly fishing report 4/19/22
The walleye run is still going strong on the Fox River. Fishermen are getting them all along the river. Some of the fish are spawned out and are making their way back to the bay but there are still plenty of them that have not spawned yet. On the lower bay on the east shore fishermen are having luck trolling and jigging structure. Reports of some nice eyes being caught off of Longtail. By metro at the warm water discharge crappie, bass, pike and walleyes are being caught. For more information give us a call at 920 593 1749. Yah, only at Smokeys!!!
Smokeys weekly fishing report 4/13/22
Walleyes are still doing real good on the Fox river from the dam to the mouth. They are finally starting to spawn with this warmer weather. The bad news is we are going to get more rain and heavy winds on Thursday and Friday so please check the weather situations before going out. U-Bay is picking up for walleyes trolling, casting and jigging are working well. At Metro again shore fishermen are getting some nice crappies. Captain Jerry Ruffolo’s weekly guides report 4/6/22
As Mother Nature throws one sucker punch after another at us, we continue to seek springtime walleye gold on the Fox and Green Bay. The blade bait and hair jig have been the most reliable for us on my boat, with several prespawn females hitting the nets up around the washout below the dam. Purple hair jigs and purple/gold Bat Lures blade baits have been best. On the Bay, casting rippin raps by day and trolling P10’s or #7 Flicker minnows at night have taken the most fish. With ice sheets drifting around in many areas of the Bay please use caution while traveling in boats. As of this morning I had a late cancellation on Monday 4/11. The forecast looks great, and big fish are biting!
As always, be safe, and take a kid fishing!

Smokeys weekly fishing report 4/6/22
Rain rain go away. The Fox River has been pretty muddy lately with all the rain we have been getting but lots of walleyes are being caught from the dam to the mouth of the river. U-Bay is wide open and fishermen are having luck on the east shore up by Eagles Nest. Trolling, casting and jigging are all working on the Fox river and the bay. At metro the crappies are still biting as well. With this warmer weather coming the fishing is only going to get better. If you don’t like the crowds and parking at the Depere launches come to Metro it’s only a short run to the dam and easy access to the bay. Smokeys weekly fishing report 3/29/22
The Fox River is still producing some nice walleyes even though the water temps are still alittle cold. Jigging, casting and trolling are all working well. Reports of lots of whitefish are also being caught by the dam. By Metro walleyes are being caught by the mouth and some fishermen are venturing out in the channel on the bay. Crappies are still biting by the warm water discharge at Metro. All landings on the Fox now have docks, if you don’t like the long lines and congestion that is happening at the Depere launches check out Metro only a half hour trip up river and you can fish all the way up. Still have lots of ice on the lower bay(not for ice fishing) but it should be breaking up soon with the rain we are going to get and warmer temps by the end of the week. For more information give us a call 920 593 1749. Yah, only at smokeys!!!
Smokeys weekly fishing report 3/22/22
The walleye bumper fest is going strong on the Fox River. Walleyes are being caught from the mouth of the river to the dam in Depere. Docks are still not in at most of the launches on the river. To avoid a long walk and wait time at the launches in Depere lots of fishermen are launching at Metro and fishing their way down to Depere. Also at Metro the crappie bite is going strong, walleyes and pike are being caught at night. The lower bay should be open in a couple of days so U-Bay should be rocking soon.
