Ice conditions have been improving with the cold weather we had the last couple of days but you still need to take caution when traveling on the ice especially when we have ship traffic and high winds. The west shore of the bay is frozen quite good. Fishermen are catching perch, walleyes and pike. The east shore is still alittle sketchy for ice conditions fishermen are walking out and catching perch and whitefish. The Fox River is doing real good. By the dam walleyes are hitting at night and right a day break. By the 172 bridge perch, walleyes and some crappies are being caught. Not much to report this time of year. The Fox is still open and some walleyes are still being caught by the Depere Dam and by the warm water discharge at Metro Launch. It’s getting to be that time of year. The transition from soft water to hard water is here. The Fox River has still been producing some nice fish from walleyes to nice muskies. Night fishing seems to be working the best as the flood gates are still closed at the Depere Dam not allowing enough current and lower water levels. The Fox River should remain open for a few more weeks if we do not get temps well below zero. For those venturing out where you see ice use extreme caution. The best tip I can give you die hard fishermen that want to catch a trophy Musky, Pike or Walleye is to consider fishing at night. By Metro Launch the night bite has been hot hot hot. Please do not take your boat and cut off the fishermen casting from shore. Instead fish in front of Smokeys casting towards shore and you will have great results. Looks like we are coming to the end of 2021 open water fishing as many guides and fishermen are putting away their boats, getting ready for deer hunting and waiting for the ice season to begin. The hard core fishermen are still out there and catching some nice fish. If you are fishing on the Fox river the bite for walleyes has been slow during the day but the night fishing is producing some nice walleyes. Perch and Bluegills are being caught in small inlets, harbors and under the 172 bridge. Smallies are still being caught by the Depere Dam. Musky bite has been hit and miss. Your best bet for a trophy musky is to try fishing at night. Metro Launch is still on fire during the night with monster walleyes, huge pike and some really big muskies being caught. Just a heads up. Fishing during the day light hours has been hit and miss. The fishermen that are having luck are fishing the muskies/walleyes at night. The bait fish come to the surface at night and the big muskies and walleyes come up after them. So if you want to catch a giant musky, pike or walleye plan a night trip. Temps are good but the fish should be going crazy but there are some barriers that are effecting the bite. For the walleyes are the Fox River the day bite is slow because the flood gates are close relating to not enough current in the river. Don’t get me wrong they are still catching fish but not the numbers we are used to. The night bite on the river is the best for walleyes. Musky fishing has also been hit and miss. We have been experiencing a lot of big winds which the muskies do not like. Try fishing in the deeper channels and again the night bite has been pretty good. Fall is here and the fish are biting. With the strong winds we have been having it is making it difficult to fish the lower bay, Use caution when venturing out, check with a guide or bait shop for conditions. Walleyes and perch are still being caught on the lower bay trolling and jigging on both the east and west shores. The Fox River has been improving for walleyes. The day bite is a little slow as the flood gates by the dam are closed so there is not a lot of current. It seems that the night bite is the best time to fish walleyes using jigs and minnows, soft plastics, blade baits and minnow baits. Some monster walleyes are being caught at night by the Metro warm water discharge. Trolling cranks on the 172 flats is working well. Small mouth bass are being caught by the dam casting floating rapalas. Perch fishing is still going strong out of Bay Shore, Vincent Point and the mouth of the Suamico River. Perch, Bluegills and crappie are still being caught by the 172 bridge and smaller harbors. Musky fishing on the bay has been tough because of the strong north winds we have been receiving. Muskies don’t like it when it gets too ruff on the shallow flats so try trolling the channel in deeper water. Some muskies are also being caught on the 172 flats trolling cranks. Fall is here and the colder temps are making the fish put on the feed bag. The only draw back we are having are the high blowing winds hitting the lower bay. Please use caution while venturing out on a fishing trip. Perch are still being caught out of Bay Shore, Vincent, Suamico River and Geanos if you are fishing on the bay. Other spots that are doing good are by the 172 bridge and small harbors. In the harbors giant bluegills and crappies are also being caught. Remember that it is illegal to enter these private harbors via their property but you can access them by boat as it is federal waters. Please respect their property. Walleyes are still being caught on both shores of the bay. As the water get colder walleyes will enter the river systems. The Fox River is producing some nice walleyes by the dam and virtually the whole river system either by jigging or trolling cranks. Muskies were really hitting well until we had that big blow last Thursday on the bay. The hot spot was frying pan shoal. University Bay should start up soon as well as the Fox river. For fishing off shore Voyager Park is doing well for walleyes and Metro Launch by the warm water discharge is on fire at night with numerous walleyes 30 inches plus are being caught. Also at Metro Launch at night lots of pike and big muskies are being caught throwing smaller cranks into the bait balls of gizzard shad. Firetiger colors are working the best. As the temperatures are dipping the fishing is getting better. The perch bite is still going strong. Vincent Point has been on fire on the east shore and out of the Suamico River on the west shore is doing good. Minnows are working best but some fishermen are having luck with crawlers too. Some nice perch are also being caught in the Duck Creek River and by the 172 bridge on the Fox River. Walleyes are still being caught on both the east and west shores trolling cranks, some are using harnesses and rip jiggn. The Fox River has been a tough bite during the day as the flood gates are closed by the dam causing the current to be real slow. Night fishing has been more productive on the Fox using jig and minnows, blade baits, soft plastics and trolling cranks in the deeper channels. Reports of smallies being caught up by the dam casting floating rappalas. Some nice pike are also being caught by the metro launch casting smaller crankbaits and spoons. Muskies are going pretty good trolling cranks (RAZ SHADS) on frying pan shoal and in U-Bay. Some nice 50 inch plus fish have been being caught.
