The continued warm weather coupled with calm seas allowed for some great opportunity to get out for
some early fall fishing the last week. Unfortunately as I type this a cold front has settled on our area and
we will have to wait to see what happens this next week after it passes.
Walleye fishing remained good overall. The bite windows continued to be short in most areas as the
clear water and calm conditions made the activity a little sporty at times. This entire week the best
action was early morning from before sunup until around 8AM and 4pm to just after dark all around the
lower Bay of Green Bay. Volks Reef continued to provide good action at times, and the activity level at
Vincent reef also increased. Some anglers reported decent catches from 16’ out to 18’ along the
shorelines from about Barretts point to Dykesville and from Bayshore landing down to volks landing.
Also some fish were caught running the same depts from Vincent reem to Point Sable. Shoreline
trollers are mainly running #9 Flicker Minnows with good success at times. There has been quite a bit of
bait around those areas, targeting the suspended fish has been best. Around the structures most
anglers are tolling #7 Flicker Minnows early in the day and late and getting those baits close to the
bottom has been key around the reefs. Areas like college reef and the east shore of University Bay
continue to produce some walleye. Trolling #7 Flicker minnows has continued to be one of the most
productive methods down there. Anglers doing some early morning jigging continue having good
success shallow on structures. Jigging raps, Shiver minnows and Death jigs have all caught fish.
Perch fishing continues to be excellent. Anglers reporting high catch rates from around Bay Shore all the
way north to Sugar Creek. 15’ out to 30’ with shallower waters working best early then moving deeper
as the sun gets up in the sky. Also around the Oconto area the Perch bite in deeper water has been
excellent. Dead sticking minnows continues to work well, but many anglers are reporting that crawler
chunks continue to dominate their catches at times. Slip bobbers suspending a crawler chunk about 12”
off the bottom and crappie rigs have been excellent choices also.
Musky anglers are reporting that the bite slowed this past week, particularly for bigger fish. The heat
and flat calm conditions are to blame for that. The fish that have been caught mostly have been
triggered by trolling shad style baits in open water on the west shore as well as around areas in
University Bay like Frying pan Shoal. The cold front conditions should have many musky anglers licking
their chops hoping for a water temperature cool down to trigger more activity.
If you go, please be safe, and take a kid fishing.

Smokeys weekly fishing report by Captain Klaus and Ruffolo 9/16/24
The last week has brought us some gorgeous end of summer/beginning of fall weather and the week
ahead looks like more of the same. Hopefully everyone can get their boats out and enjoy some time on
the waters of Green Bay.
Walleye fishing earlier in the week last week was very good but through the weekend it became a little
tougher. The bite windows seemed to tighten up in most areas as the water had begun to clear up
some. Very early morning from before sunup until around 8AM has been good and 4pm to just after
dark all around the lower Bay of Green Bay. Areas around Volks Reef, Vincent reef, and Dykesville
continue to see Walleye activity. Also, areas like college reef and the East shore of University Bay have
produced some walleye but again in the early morning and late afternoon being the best activity.
Trolling #7 Flicker minnows has continued to be one of the most productive methods. Anglers doing
some early morning jigging are also having good success shallow on structures. Jigging raps, Shiver
minnows and Death jigs have all caught fish. If you are fishing from about 8AM to 3PM time frames
expect the walleye bite to be more difficult especial if the wind is not present.
Perch fishing overall still has been very good. Anglers reporting better catches from around Bay Shore
all the way north to Sugar Creek. 15’ out to 30’ with shallower waters working best early then moving
deeper as the sun gets up in the sky. Dead sticking minnows early has been very good for nice sized fish
but many anglers are reporting that larger crawler chunks on a slip bobber doing some damage as the
sun gets up. Action to the south of Bayshore has been reported to be slower.
Not many Musky reports this last week but that activity should be on the increase once the weather
begins to cool.
If you go, please be safe, and take a kid fishing.

Smokeys weekly fishing report by Captains Klaus and Ruffolo 9/9/24
Well, we survived the first major cold front of the early fall and came out of it with not much negative
effects on the walleye fishing. This week ahead looks like a solid warm up which should drive some
good Walleye activity all over Green Bay
Areas around Volks Reef and Dykesville to Macco’s reef continue to be some of the best Walleye activity
along the east shore of the Bay. Trolling #7 Flicker minnows has been one of the most productive
methods. The water has been very stained so around structure we have had better success getting our
baits as close to the bottom as possible. University Bay has also been decent at times both trolling the
shorelines along the east shore or working around the rocky areas like college reef. Again #7 Flicker
minnows have been the best, but Flicker Shads have also been working.
Perch fishing overall still has been good when anglers can get out along the East shore areas. Anglers
have mainly been working the rock to sand transition areas more than up shallow around the reefs.
Minnows for sure have been much more productive baits. Slip bobbers have been ok but dead sticking
or drop shott rigs have been much better. Anglers are reporting the perch have been “Packed” with bug
larva. Folks from the Oconto area are also reporting very good perch activity bot on Oconto shoal and
the weed areas north of the Oconto river mouth and around Oconto Cty Park 2.
Musky action continues to be good for guys willing to do some casting. Buck tails have been reported to
be the best bait around weed areas along the West shore.

Overall Walleye fishing remained very good with working around structures being the best bet. Areas
along the east shore like Volks Reef, Macco’s Reef, and Chadiour’s Dock all producing good bites at
times. Both jigging presentations like Shiver Minnows and trolling #7 Flicker Minnows all produced
catches. Rock structures like Geano’s and Oconto Shoal also produced good catches both jigging and
trolling. In all cases use your electronics like side imaging to locate fish schools then focus on them with
your chosen tactic.
Perch fishing was a little spottier this last week especially to the south. Geano’s along the weed edges
produced some fish and areas like Dykesville and Vincent Reef also produced some catches. Several
anglers reported good catches this last week around Oconto also. Anglers had to be versatile with bait
selection changing constantly and locations. Don’t stay ion one area too long if the fish were not active.
Some days slip bobbers are best while other days three-way rigs with double drop spreader rigs are
better.
Musky action slowed a little with the slight heat wave but with a cool down and as we move closer to
fall the action should get better each week.

Smokeys weekly fishing report by Captains Klaus and Ruffolo 8/26/24
Good walleye fishing existed over the last 7-10 days, as consistent winds and weather pushed bait and
current, creating a great bite.
College reef, east side rocks of University Bay, Vincent Point, Volks reef, Bayshore, Barrett Point,
Macco’s reef, and Geanos’s reef all were producing good catches of Walleye. Also areas to the north
like Larsons Reef, Young’s reef, Oconto Shoal were are all putting out good catches of walleyes. Pick your
favorite technique, apply it to any of these areas and it’s likely you’ll be into fish. When the bite slows,
slow down with it by using slip bobbers or pulling slow death.
Perch fishing was good in and around the rocky bottom areas off Dykesville, with many limit catches
observed. Minnows, crawler pieces, and hellgrammites are taking these fish. The Oconto shoal was
another hot perch area. Some days slip bobbers are best while other days three-way rigs with double
drop spreader rigs are better.
Musky action has really picked up, with both trolling and casting techniques working for these large
predators. Bucktails, large plastics like shallow invaders and Medusas, and large crankbaits like Super
Shads are taking fish.

Smokeys weekly fishing report by Captains Klaus and Ruffalo 8/19/24
Winds have once again made it a bit of a challenge for angers on and off throughout the week but when
folks were able to put their boats in fishing was good overall.
Perch fishing along the east shore from Macco’s to Volks reef had its ups and downs but guys willing to
move around and pay attention to their electronics were able to nab some nice limits of Bengal Backs.
Minnows below a slip bobber or dead sticking were top producers. Crawler chunks seemed to attract
more White Perch than Yellows.
The “Mud” trolling bite for walleye showed signs of improvement last week from 26’-30’ of water of
Geanos all the way up to Pensaukee. Once again pay attention to your electronics and when you
contact larger schools of fish you can work them by trolling Flicker minnows in both #7 and #9 with
Purples being the predominant choice. Using the 50+2 method for pulling your crank baits seemed to
be the best bet to get your lures in the target zone. Crawler Harnesses also produced some good action
with Colorado blades in Purples and Antifreeze color patterns.
Working structures when the wind has been blowing has been good Flat Calm days have been tougher.
North/South Reef, Oconto Shoal, Volks and Vincent Reef and Geanos reef have all been productive
when there has been wind. Jigging Hair jigs, jig and Crawler and Shiver minnows have all been
productive presentations. Some fish have also ben taken trolling #7 Flicker minnows around the
structures.
Musky are becoming more active with the cooler nights bringing early morning water temps down and
increasing the activity levels of these predators. Casting buck tails, Medusa’s, swim baits, and top water
baits were the best all-around lure choices. Areas around Geano’s reef, Pensaukee Shoal, and
Chaudoir’s Dock have seen the biggest increase in activity.

Smokeys on the Bay weekly fishing report by Captain Klaus and Ruffolo 8/12/24
Last week the NEW area was hit with a cold front early in the week with some NE winds that started
shaking up the water temps a bit. By the weekend we had several days of West winds to then move
some warm water around. The result was somewhat unstable water temp and correspondingly fishing
was a bit tougher from day to day. The good news is our water temps before the weather shake up
were fairly stable.
Rock structures along the East shore in general like Vincent and Volks and Macco’s reef were all just a
little better fishing when anglers could venture out looking for Walleye. Both Jigging and Trolling
presentations caught fish. To the north a bit the Chaudoir’s Dock area up to Little Sturgeon Bay found
some anglers trolling the wind blow East shorelines from 10’ out to 25’ and finding areas with good
Walleye action. Crank baits like Flicker minnows were the best producing baits in Chrome patters in
that slightly cleaner water.
The Mud bite at times is still producing some catches from Geanos to Pensaukee. Rember to use your
electronics to locate schools of fish then get the baits like Harnesses or Flicker Minnows right above the
fish.
The Oconto Shoal continues to show signs of life, Again using your electronics to fin the fish as they
move around the structure from day to day. Jigging with Shiver Minnows and Spoons has been good
along with slip bobbers once you locate some fish. Trolling Cranks either on top of the ricks or off the
deep edges has also been good.
Perch fishing over all was a bit slower this last week with the off balance weather but this week of stable
conditions should get that fishing activity ramped back up again soon.
Please consider practicing selective harvest of both Walleye and Perch to help maintain the vitality of
our fishery. Musky fishing has been good casting bucktails and trolling Raz Shads. Remember with warm water temps do not keep that fish out of the water very long. Get you camera ready , take the picture and let them go. Always have the proper equipment like hook cutters, large net, jaw spreaders and hook release tools. They have to be 54″ to keep one, catch and release not in the grease, Yah, only at Smokeys!!!

Smokeys weekly fishing reports by Captains Klaus and Ruffalo 8/5/24
The much warmer weather this last week has certainly driven the Walleye into a much more aggressive
feeding mode on Green Bay. Over weekend we have seen surface temps push up over the 80 Degree
mark by around midday.
The mud trolling bite has been up and down but fish have been moving up the bay and activity around
areas like Oconto Shoal, Youngs Reef and Chadiour’s Dock have seen an increase in sold fish catches.
The areas around Larsons reef and Sturgeon Bay have also begun to show much improved action. All
these areas you can fish to your strengths. If you want to troll both crawler harnesses and crank baits
have been working. Flicker Minnows with snap weights in purples have been the most common bait
selection for trollers. Jigging with Shiver minnows or other glide style baits has also been proving to be
very productive along with Death Jig style baits around the reef areas.
Perch fishing continues to be excellent everywhere on The Bay right now. Minnows and crawler pieces
have been the best baits both on slip bobbers and dropshot rigs. Even the folks trolling or jigging for
Walleye are having good success “incidentally” catching Perch. Make sure to use your electronics to
locate the schools and then be flexible to move if the school dries up.
Musky fishing has been slow for bigger fish around the lower Bay but many Musky chasers have pulled
back from targeting them due to the water temps raising so much.
Please consider practicing selective harvest of both Walleye and Perch to help maintain the vitality of
our fishery.

Smokeys weekly fishing report by Captains Klaus and Ruffolo 7/29/24
Green Bay Walleye action has been well above average for action more days than not as of this last
week. A slight cold front mid-week halted action slightly but overall, the fishing has been strong.
Trolling or jigging reefs like Geano’s and Oconto Shoal has been some of the best action. Around the
shallow reefs running #7 Flicker Minnows or Flicker Shads when trolling has proven to produce good
numbers when there is some wind present. Perch patterns and the always productive purple patterns
have been best. Folks preferring to jig with glide baits like Shiver Minnows along with Jigging Spoons
have seen good catches also around the shallow rocks. For sure windy days have been better than flat
calm. East shore reefs have been a bit more hit or miss but, on some days, good catches have shown up
off Volks and Vincent and Macco’s reefs.
The” Mud” trolling bite has been good overall. Crawler harnesses with Gold or Gold/Purple blades have
been decent along with worm burner spoons in similar colors. Many days trolling Crankbaits like #9
Flicker Minnows assisted with 2 oz snap weights has also been very productive. Watch your electronics
and pay attention to where ethe fish are in the water column to make sure you keep your baits in the
right zone.
University Bay has also seen some good action for Walleye trolling crank baits around rocky areas like
College Reef and in Dead Horse Bay. Mostly in the mornings and the evenings in the shallow waters.
Areas around Sturgeon Bay like Larsons Reef are also beginning to show signs of good Walleye action.
Don’t be afraid to get out and explore the summer water temps have stabilized and activity should be
good day in and day out all-over Green Bay.
Perch fishing continues to be very good seemingly everywhere on The Bay right now. Minnows and
crawler pieces have been the best baits along with some plastics like 2” Keitech Easy Shiners. Rock sand
transitions along with reef tops and weed edges all seem to be holding Perch. The key is to be a little bit
flexible and don’t sit in one area too long if nothing is biting. Musky fishing is improving, fishing the weeds on the west shore has produced some nice fish. With this warm weather we are have please practice CPR and use the right tools to protect the fish. Have your camera ready , take your picture and release the fish.

Smokeys weekly fishing report by Captains Klaus and Ruffolo 7/23/24
Walleye fishing on Green Bay has finally been living up to its normal standard.
Trolling Crank baits like #7 Flicker Minnows and #7 Flicker Shads around structures has been on of the
best bets for action. Anywhere from College Reef in University Bay, to Geano’s Reef, and all the way up
to Oconto Shaol. The east shore structures like Vincent Reef and Volks Reef have also been good for
Walleye action trolling at times. Jigging any off the ref tops with Shiver Minnows and Jigging Spoons
along with Hair Jigs and other glide baits has been productive on many days.
The trolling bite in the “Mud” off Geano’s up past Pensaukee has also seen an uptick in action. Both #9
Flicker minnows and Crawler Harnesses have been seeing good catches on many days. For sure fish
want to see a slower presentation this last few weeks so even on your crank baits slow down your speed
these fish are still coming off one of the largest Alewife feeding stretches we have ever seen on Green
Bay they are not as willing to chase a bait fast.
Perch fishing continues to be very good overall, with areas around Geanos, Pensaukee, Oconto,
Bayshore, Maccos reef al seeing good action. Minnows, hellgrammites, and crawler pieces were best
baits with dead sticking seeing an uptick in activity.
