Smokeys weekly fishing report by Captains Claus and Ruffolo 5/18/26

For the first time in a while Mother Nature brought us a fairly steady weather pattern to assist with
fishing success, well at least until Sunday’s major cold front. Up until that point both Walleye and Bass
Fishing were on fire on Green Bay.
University Bay and Deadhorse Bay remained fair fishing due to the very dirty condition of the water
clarity. Most days anglers trolling brighter colored Flicker Minnows or Shads are finding some success
along the sore lines from Bay beach to the Eagles Nest. Also, on the edges of Frying Pan Shoal and
around College Reef. There has been no shortage of Sheep heading around in University Bay for some
sustained action. Great for taking some kids out on the water fishing.
The Suamico area has been reported as slower, but several reports have come in of a few Pike around
along with an occasional Walleye.
The Geanos Beach/Reef area has also slowed up a bit due to the winds bringing in cooler water temps
last week. Anglers trolling around the reef with Flicker Minnows report a few Walleyes hitting the net
daily. Water clarity is better and more natural colors like Perch patterns have been better.
The east sore continues to be the most consistent Walleye fishing around both trolling or casting 15’ of
water or less along rocky areas Vincent Reefs All the way to Dykesville and all the way up to Macco’s
reef. Trolling #7 Flicker minnows has been good most days also casting hair jigs when the wind is
blowing into the rocky shallow areas has produced some outstanding catches. If the wind is calmer the
fish in these areas have been moving out to 10’-15’ of water.
Small Mouth anglers in Door County are reporting seeing more fish in the shallow bays like Sand Bay,
Riley’s Bay and Little Sturgeon. Casting the shallow warming water areas in the bays using swim baits
like Keitech Easy Shiners or the Rapala Mayor or Jerk baits like the Mega Bass Vision have all been good.
Reminder Perch season opens Wednesday May 20 th and Musky season opens this Saturday May 23rd
Remember to take a kid fishing
