Overall the last week Mother Nature cooperated very well for most anglers. A few windy afternoons
and always a couple full windy days but with the overall warmer weather the water temperatures have
begun to move an hold on to a warming trend.
University Bay and Deadhorse Bay including Frying Pan Shoal have all seen improved catches of Walleye
as Sheephead finish up their spawning. Trolling #7 Flicker Shads or Minnows in 5-8 feet of water has
been best and the better color choices have been Firetiger, Mouse, and Purple patterns like Primetime.
The Suamico area has continued to report slower than normal action, with dirty water and some slimy
weed growth beginning.
The east shore once again continues to be the most consistent Walleye fishing. Both trolling or casting
15’ of water or less along rocky areas like Vincent Reefs All the way to Dykesville and all the way up to
Chaudoir’s Dock. Trolling #7 Flicker minnows has been good most days also casting hair jigs when the
wind is blowing into the rocky shallow areas lets than 8’ of water has produced some outstanding
catches. If the wind is calmer the fish in these areas have been moving out to 15’ of water or deeper. A
few Perch catches have begin to show up over the weekend for guys willing to spend the time looking
with their electronics. Minnows on dropshot rigs or dead sticks have been good. No real big numbers
as of yet but catches of 5 to 8 Perch per angler have been reported.
Musky anglers reported a very good opener weekend. Most anglers spent time casting Buck Tails and
Jerk baits in the shallows in the Fox River and some even reported trolling up a few big girls at night on
the river.
If folks are looking for a good action fishing day for the kids venture down to the Fox and cast hair jigs or
a jig and crawler and you will get enough Sheep head to entertain just about any age group! You may
also be surprised with a few lingering walleyes!
Small Mouth anglers are reporting getting plenty of fish on all the Bays in Door County as the fish are
heavily into their spawning all up and down the peninsula. Swin baits and Tubes have bene a great
choice along with Marabou Hair jigs when looking to tangle with that trophy Small Mouth.
