Smokeys weekly fishing report by Captains Claus and Ruffolo 7/13/26

Last week was a hot one on Green Bay and this week looks like another roaster! Surface temps have
been around 76 to 77 Deg, but up to as much as 81 Deg at times. The warm weather has defiantly
turned on the Walleye and Perch activity overall.
University Bay has seen some good catches of eater Walleyes in the early morning and late in the day or
when there has ben a good breeze. Trolling crank baits like #7 Flicker Minnows has been best running
1.8 to 2.0 Mph. Brighter colors like Firetail FIretiger and Prime Time have been good.
East shore Walleye activity around the reefs like Maccos, Volks, Vincent, and 2 Mile has been very good.
Jigging Shiver Minnows and Hair jigs along jigs and crawlers or search baits have all produced some good
catches of 15-20” Walleye along with some bigger fish. Trolling #7 Flicker Minnows in purples patterns
over the tops of the reefs in the mornings and evenings has also produced good catches of Walleye.
Jigging and trolling early and late in the day around Geano’s Reef continues to be productive.
The Green Bay “Mud Bite” has certainly popped with the heat. From Longtail and the entrance light
area all the way to Oconto there are active schools of Walleye feeding. Trolling Crank baits like #9 or

11 Flicker minnows in flashy colors like Slick Sunset and Green Alewife or Purple Flash have all been

good choices. If pulling Crawler harnesses is your thing that has also been very good out in the mud.
Antifreeze blades along with purples have been productive. Watch your electronics and keep your baits
just above the fish you are marking.
The Perch bite has exploded around the area with the warm weather. Use your electronics to stay on
schools of active fish. Off the edges of the rock structures in 8’-16’ of water. Chaudoirs Dock area,
Macco’s Reef, Volks and Vincent reefs all on the east shore have been good. Geanos reef, and Oconto
Shoal have also seen some good Perch catches this past week. The best tactics have been dead sticking
Perch rigs or drop shot with minnows and crawlers, although the word is the crawler chunks have been
slightly better with the warm water.
Reminder, the Chaudoir’s Dock boat ramp will be close starting 7/13 for the next 6 weeks approximately
due to dredging work.
