The walleye bite improved last week. Fishermen are having lots of luck trolling cranks, crawler harnesses and rip jigging on both the east shore and west shore of the bay working the breaks and the humps. Some nice perch are also being caught in 18 to 22 feet of water jigging pieces of crawlers and minnows. Musky fishing has still been slow but as we move into August it should improve. The walleye bite is back on as the alewives are moving out of the system. Fishermen are having luck trolling harnesses and minnow baits. The rip jigging is also starting to produce some nice fish. With the warm weather we are having walleyes are being caught off the deeper breaks on both east and west shores of the bay. Perch fishing is still going strong in these same areas. Musky fishing is still slow but should improve with the alewives moving out of the lower bay. Fishing for walleyes and muskies has been pretty tough the last few weeks. The problem we have right now is the huge influx of alewives in the lower bay system. The predator fish are feasting on them. The alewives should be gone soon. Fishermen are still have some luck catching walleyes and perch out of Bay Shore and Geanos fishing the deeper breaks and fishing off the sides of the humps trolling cranks, crawler harnesses and jigging. Looks like the white perch are starting to spawn also. Pike fishing has been real good on the west shore weed beds and sad to say the Musky fishing has been pretty slow. With the early blast of warm weather, along with increasing water temperatures, walleye fishing remained good but put anglers in a search mode for consistency. Good catches are coming from transition areas, specifically areas with access to deep water and ever moving baitfish. Deeper areas off Vincent point, Bayshore, Two Mile reef, Geanos Reef and Shoemaker Point were popular areas, and decent catches of a mix of bigger and eating size walleyes were found in these places. Diving crankbaits and crawler harnesses trolled in these areas yielded the best catches. Yellow perch activity picked up with this warming trend, as good catches were found along both shores. Crawler pieces, red worms, and minnows took the most perch. If you go, please be safe, and take a kid fishing.

Again with this warmer weather the water is heating up fast. Most of the walleyes have moved to deeper water so fish the deeper breaks on both the east shore and west shore. Musky fishing is still slow right now but a few are being caught on the west shore in the weeds. Remember to handle these fish properly with this warmer than average weather. As the water temps heat up the walleye are moving off the flats to deeper cooler water. On the east shore Vincent Point, Vokes Reef, Bay Shore and Chaudoirs have been producing some nice walleyes. On the west shore fish the deeper breaks in Saumico and Geano’s. Fishermen are also catching some nice perch in the same spots. Musky fishing has been spotty, they have moved out of the Fox River. Walleye fishing continued its hot pace, despite the cold front with NE winds to 30 mph and air temps driving water temps down 8-12 degrees throughout Green Bay.  The bite slowed considerably Thursday thru Saturday, but by Sunday it rebounded nicely, with good catches of fish on Frying Pan Shoal, University Bay, Vokes Reef, Vincent Point and Point Comfort.  Big white bass were found in the shipping channel out by Grassy Island, and some good perch catches were observed by Geanos Reef and near Dykesville.  If you get out, be safe, and take a kid fishing.

Musky season is here but it was a slow opening. We had an early spawn and with Memorial Weekend later this year it looks like most of the big fish moved out to the bay. We had reports of numerous 50 inch plus being caught in U-Bay, so they are still out there. Walleyes are still going strong on both east and west shores trolling crank baits and crawler harness’s. Excellent walleye fishing continues, with hot bites going in University Bay, Suamico, Deadhorse, and Geanos Reef.  Crankbaits behind planer boards, crawler harnesses, jig/crawler, blade baits, and rippin raps are all taking fish.  White Bass are working their way out of the Fox River, with edges of the shipping channel being a good place to find them.  Jigging has taken the most fish.  To the north, a good walleye bite has been found around Pensaukee, Oconto, and Green Island.  If you go, be safe, and as always, take a kid fishing.
