SMOKEYS WEEKLY FISHING REPORT BY CAPTAIN CLAUS AND RUFFALO 4/15/24

Other than a few windy days the weather overall has been conduce vie to all the Green Bay walleye to
spawning heavily.
On the Fox the river areas are foiling with post spawn fish pretty steady now. Rock flats and sand flats
on the river have seen fair activity throwing Rip N Raps and Hair Jigs. Water clarity has improved and so
has the bite. The night bite casting up near the Dam has produced a few Pre-Spawn fish still as of this
last weekend and the downriver trolling activity at night has also continued to be good with the usual p-
10 and Flicker Minnows being the best baits.
University Bay continues to see decent activity for Walleye. Trolling flicker minnows and Flicker Shads
both have been working. Trolling around the Bayshore area has also been productive. Shallower in the
mornings and evenings but sliding out deeper a bit during the day. Similarly for the Door County waters
north of Chaudior’s Dock. P-10’s and other stick baits run shallow and then Flicker Minnows #9’s and
even #11’s out a bit deeper.
Fishing in the Oconto and Peshtigo area this week showed improvement as the week went on, with post
spawn walleyes dominating the catch. Fish coming off their shoreline and river spawning areas were
very active, with hair jigs, rip n raps, and plastics taking the most fish. Some days the bite was very
shallow, with 2-3′ being the hot zone, while other days active fish were in the 8-10′ range. The daytime
trolling bite is also improving around Oconto. Trolling #7 and #9 flicker minnows did well taking walleyes
and pike in Oconto.
For any of your spring bait or lure needs stop in a Smokies on the Bay, Jeff will hook you up with what is
needed.
Be safe and tight lines.
