Smokeys weekly fishing report by Captain Ruffolo 10/3/22

Walleye and perch fishing on Green Bay remained good, with changing conditions the norm. Cooling overnight has dropped water temperatures into the upper 50s and lower 60s, and with that shad are starting to move into the fox river. Walleyes in turn are also moving into the river. A good bite is going on the fox trolling below the 172 bridge. Flicker shad and flicker minnows have been the best bsits there. Up by the dam and in around the washout hole, jigging ripper minnows, binks spoons, hair jigs, bat lures blade baits, and small jigs with crawlers are taking fish. Around the lower bay of Green Bay, crankbaits by University Bay, Vincent point, Bayshore, Geano‘s reef, Oconto, And the reefs of the east shore are also taking fish. For perch, fathead minnows and nightcrawler pieces are working for big perch around Oconto, Vincent, Georno’s, Suamico, and Duck Creek. Muskie fishing is going well, as large body crank baits like Tyrant Raz shads and shallow diving lures are taking these big fish. Shore fishing is really getting good at Metro at night, huge walleye, pike and muskies are being caught. If you get the chance to go, please be safe and always take a kid fishing. Smokeys weekly fishing report by Captain Jerry Ruffolo 9/26/22

Walleye fishing on Green Bay is good, with limit catches taking place in several locations. The Fox River at De Pere, Geanos reef, Vincent Point, Young’s reef, North-South reef, Bayshore, Kidney Island, and deep mud areas of the Sharkfin, Oconto Shoal, and Pensaukee Shoal are all putting out fish. Trolling Flicker Shads, flicker minnows, shad raps, Smithwick P10’s, and Salmo hornets have been best. Casting Ripper minnows and Binks spoons are also taking fish. As a reminder, currently the limit on walleye in the Fox River is 3 fish with no size limit. Perch fishing is good, with limit catches of great eating 10-12” fish being taken at Suamico, Oconto, Geanos, Vincent, Macos, Bayshore, and in front of Dykesville. Minnows, crawlers, and helgramites are the best baits for perch. Muskie fishing is good, as water temps cooling into the 62-65 degree range put these large predators on the feed. Crankbaits such as Super Shad Raps, Tyrant Raz Shads, Tyrant Czars, Shallow Invaders, and large Storm stickbaits are taking fish. Just a reminder, please handle these great fish with care when releasing them. Shore fishing is really improving as the temperatures drop and the bait fish are migrating to the river systems.
As always, please be safe on the water and take a kid fishing. Yah, only at Smokeys!!!

Smokeys weekly fishing report by Captain Ruffolo 9/19/22

Mother Nature dominated the walleye fishing scene over the last week, as the 3 days of heavy NE winds along with 2-3” of rain cooled water temperatures 8-10 degrees and shut off a great bite. It took a few days to rebound, but by Friday walleyes we’re once again being caught in their normal haunts. The slowest bite to return to normal was the mud out near the Spark Plug and the Sharkfin. Over the weekend, good catches were found on Oconto Shoal, Vincent Point, Bayshore, Vokes Reef, Macos Reef, and 2 mile Reef. Trolling crankbaits, casting Ripper Minnows, Tyrant Jiggn Raz, and Binks spoons are taking the most fish. Perch fishing has picked up nicely, with good catches in Deadhorse Bay, Suamico, Vincent Point, Vokes Reef, off Dykesville, near Macos Reef, North-South Reef, and Oconto Shoal. Minnows, crawler pieces, and redworms are the best baits on Smokeys perch rigs. Musky fishing is good, as cooling water temperatures have raised activity of these big predators. Trolling Tyrant Raz Shads, Super Shad Raps, Bucktails, Shallow Invaders, and Tyrant Czars are taking the most fish. Shore fishing has been getting much better as the bait fish move into the river system, Metro launch, Voyager Park and under the west side of the 172 bridge are good shore spots. If you get the chance to go, please be safe, and take a kid fishing. For more information on what to use and where to go give us a call at 920 593 1749. Yah, only at Smokeys!!!

Smokeys Weekly Fishing Report Guide Addition by Captain Ruffolo 9/11/22

Walleye fishing on Green Bay is excellent right now! Good catches of 15-20” eating size fish, with bigger fish up to 30” are being taken around Bayshore, Vokes reef, Vincent Point, Geanos Reef, Macos reef, 2 mile reef, and in the mud off the spark plug. A good bite is just starting to develop in University Bay, Suamico, and Deadhorse Bay. Casting ripper minnows, shiver minnows, and jigging Rapalas are all taking fish. Trolling crankbaits in and around the reefs has been my go to presentation. Out in deeper water, crawler harnesses and crank baits on snap weight programs has been a sure way to put fish in the boat. perch fishing is good, with nightcrawlers and minnows being the best presentation. The edges of the shipping channel, out in front of Bayshore launch, and the Geanos reef area are putting out the most perch. Musky fishing has picked up, and will continue to get better as the waters of the bay cool. Trolling blades, swim baits, and crankbaits are taking these fish. Shore fishing is also picking up as the bait fish are making their way into the river systems with many predictor fish following them in. If you get the chance to go, please be safe and make sure you take a kid fishing. for more information where to fish and what to use give us a call at 920 593 1749. Yah, only at Smokeys!!!

Smokeys weekly fishing report 8/30/22

Fishing on the lower bay is getting better as we move into fall. The influx of the alewives was very beneficial to our Green Bay fishery. The walleyes and muskies really grew some nice girth from all the forage they had in the past month. Some trophy fish are going to be caught this fall. On the east and west shores of the lower bay the perch and walleye bite are still on fire. Instead of trolling for walleyes many fishermen are rip jigging using Waspie Ripper Minnows and Bink Spoons. This is a very productive technique and lots of fun. Musky fishing is also improving with most catches being made on the west shore from Little Tail to Pensaukee reef, both casting and trolling are working well. The Fox River is also getting more active. Many male walleyes are starting to move into the river making their way to the dam. For shore fishing spots on the Fox try Metro launch and Voyager Park. Smokeys weekly fishing report 8/22/22

On the lower bay fishing every species is doing very well. For perch and walleyes on the east shore Vincent Point, Voeke reef, 2 mile reef and the North south reef are producing some nice fish. On the west shore Geano’s, Sumico and Peshitgo point are also doing well. Trolling cranks, crawler harnesses and the new fab rip jigging Binks spoons and Waspie rip’n minnow. The perch really like the Smokeys no tangle rids, catch two at a time. For the musky guys Geano’s has been really good casting bucktails and trolling Tyrant Raz Shads. Lots of big muskies were caught last week the biggest was a 55 incher. Off shore fishermen out of metro lots of cats, perch, some walleyes, bass and pike are being caught. The walleye bite is hot on both the east and west shore of the lower bay. Trolling crawler harnesses, crank baits and rip jigging are all doing well. Jumbo perch are also being caught in the same areas on smokey’s perch rigs using minnows and pieces of crawlers. Big cats are being caught on the fox using sucker minnows. The musky bite is really picking up with numerous fish being caught in the 50 inch plus range. For more info give us a call at 920 593 1749 or stop at the shop. Yah, only at Smokeys!!!

Smokeys weekly guide report by Captain Ruffolo 8/12/22

Walleye fishing on Green Bay remains excellent, with great catches coming for anglers jigging, casting, and trolling. Hot areas have been Macos reef, Pensaukee Shoal, Oconto Shoal, North South reef, and the mud off Geanos reef. The best presentations have been casting ripper minnows, trolling crankbaits and crawler harnesses, and pulling the bottom bouncers with slow death rigs and crawlers. Perch fishing has been spotty, with the best catches coming from the Oconto area. Be aware of water temperature changes, as cold water moving into these areas tends to put the bite off for all species. Musky fishing is still slow but as we move into September the bite is going to be hot. If you go please be safe and take a kid fishing.
